Suggested answers in Slack

What are suggested answers in Slack?
Suggested Answers in Slack is a Guru feature that automatically replies to questions asked in Slack channels with relevant, trusted answers sourced from your company’s content and connected sources and apps—right in the thread. No one has to tag the Guru bot, leave Slack, or even know where the answer lives. If the knowledge exists in Guru (or connected sources) and the asker has access, Guru delivers it.
This feature is perfect for teams who live in Slack and want to reduce time spent answering repeat questions or searching through old threads. From #help-it to #sales-questions, Guru steps in with the right answer, so your team can keep moving.
How it works
Enable the Slack integration
Admins add the Guru app to specific public or private Slack channels and choose which knowledge sources Guru can use to answer questions.
Guru monitors for questions
Any Slack message ending in a question mark will be scanned by Guru in the channels where the Guru app has been added—no need to tag @guru or use a command.
Answers appear in the thread
When a relevant answer is found, Guru responds in the thread with a clear, concise reply, complete with source links to the original Guru Cards or connected content from your team’s external apps, docs, and chats.

Keep answers accurate
Admins can review content usage and fine-tune permissions or sources in the Guru dashboard. Users can give feedback on the quality of the answer directly in Slack with thumbs up/down, or assign an expert to review the generated answer.

Why it matters
Answers without the ask
Employees don’t need to know how to use Guru to benefit from it. Answers appear automatically right where the question was asked.
Save subject matter experts’ time
Reduce repetitive questions and unnecessary context switching. Let Guru handle common queries so your subject matter experts can focus on higher-value work.
Always-on enablement
Guru doesn’t just respond, it coaches. Suggested answers deliver timely information when teammates are making decisions or helping customers.
Boost tool adoption
By delivering answers in Slack, Guru naturally becomes part of your team’s day-to-day workflow without any training required.
Powered by your connected knowledge
Suggested answers in Slack doesn’t just pull from Guru Cards—it also taps into content synced from your team’s connected tools, like Google Drive, Salesforce, Confluence, and more. When someone asks a question in Slack, Guru searches across all available sources that that user has access to and generates a trusted, contextual answer in the thread. The result: your team gets accurate information drawn from your entire knowledge ecosystem, without ever leaving Slack.
Secure data control
Suggested answers in Slack respects all existing Guru permissions. Answers are only shown to users who have access to the underlying content, and admins can control which channels, sources, and Guru Collections are used. Admins can also view all activity in Guru’s dashboard and adjust sources or deactivate suggested answers in any Slack channel at any time. No sensitive Slack data is stored—only the question and relevant sources are used to generate an answer. Learn more about how Guru protects your data on our security page.
