What is HRIS sync?

HRIS sync connects your company’s human resources information system (HRIS) to Guru, automatically populating employee profiles with accurate, up-to-date information like job titles, teams, start dates, and reporting lines. Instead of filling out profiles manually, employee data flows straight from your HR system into Guru—giving your team immediate insight into who’s who and how everyone fits together.

How it works

Connect your HRIS

A Guru admin sets up the integration in their Guru settings. Supported platforms include BambooHR, Workday, Gusto, Trinet, and many, more. See them all here.

Map your fields

Guru pulls in key details like name, job title, team, manager, work location, and start date. You can customize or override certain fields.

Employee update automatically

Once connected, Guru syncs employee data regularly, so employee details like role changes or team assignments always stay current.

Dynamic org charts

Guru’s org chart gives your team a visual representation of reporting relationships, using the “Manager” field from synced employee profiles. Users can zoom, pan, and click into individuals to explore team structure and navigate the company with clarity. It’s especially valuable for large or distributed teams that want a more human view of the org.

Employee profiles

Profiles show who someone is, what they work on, and how to best collaborate with them. Each profile includes synced details (like job title and team) and customizable fields (like “What I’m working on” and “Best way to work with me”). You can also pin Cards to your profile to share what you’ve created or contribute to.

Secure data control

HRIS sync falls under Guru’s existing security and privacy policies. The tool used to manage integrations is SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, and HIPAA compliant. Admins retain full control over profile visibility and can choose which data fields are synced. Personal info is only populated when available and never pulled without opt-in. What fields does HRIS sync pull into Guru?

Fields may vary depending on your HRIS, but typically include name, avatar, job title, team, location, start date, and manager. Other profile sections (like “About me” or “Best way to work with me”) remain manually editable.

Can employees change the information on their profiles?

Yes. Users can edit any non-synced field on their profile. Synced fields (like title or manager) will remain locked to ensure consistency with your HR system.

What happens if a user isn’t in the HRIS?

If someone isn’t included in your HRIS sync, they’ll have a blank profile that they can fill in manually. Admins can also update any field as needed.

Can we turn off the org chart?

Yes. Admins can disable the org chart at any time from the settings panel.
