We are in the middle of a nationwide crisis. Over 40 cities have instituted curfews in response to protests and violence stemming from the senseless and tragic murders of Black citizens: George Floyd, an unarmed 46 year old man in Minneapolis, while being taken into police custody on May 25th; Breonna Taylor, a 26 year old EMT and aspiring nurse, shot in her own home during a police raid on March 13th; and Ahmaud Arbery, a 25 year old man, while jogging in Georgia on February 23rd.
At Guru, we embrace diverse experiences, backgrounds, and skill sets to make us smarter and stronger. We seek diverse views in support of better outcomes. This is why we stand with the Black community. We stand with those who are peacefully protesting the ingrained racism and violence toward people of color in the US. We know that knowledge, while often painful, can only make us see more clearly. Guru is headquartered in Philadelphia — a city that we dearly love, and one that is majority Black. We’ve seen peaceful protests by day and violence by night, but this is not the first time we’ve faced these issues, and unfortunately, it won’t be the last.
This is why we’ve put together resources on immediate and long term actions that we can all take together, from supporting bail funds and signing petitions, to learning how to be actively anti-racist. If you have any resources you’d like to see added to these Cards, just let us know in the comments, or on Twitter. These are not meant to be exhaustive lists, but merely a starting point, and we expect them to grow over time. You can also access the anti-racism resource overview Card at any time at bit.ly/combatting-racism.
Hint: If any Card fails to load, refresh the page!
